Oh my days, this fishy.
An extra large vintage silver gilt articulated fish in filigree, and he is an absolute belter. If you have been eyeing up the 9ct gold versions but cannot face the prices, this beauty holds his own entirely. Honestly, he might be better.
The construction is extraordinary. The entire body is built from twisted wire filigree with mesh infill panels — not cast, not stamped, but made wire by wire with the kind of patience that is simply not applied to jewellery anymore. The fins and tail are separately articulated so he wiggles properly. The turquoise cabochon eye pops against the warm gilt. The mouth opens to reveal the silver stamp inside.
He has attitude. He has presence. He adds more interest to a stack than pieces costing three times the price.
