This is a well considered 18 carat gold ring built around a hexagonal bezel and a bright mid century diamond that sits between transitional and early modern brilliant cutting. The hexagon is framed by raised triangular shoulders that lift into the head and create the neat illusion of a larger centre stone, a deliberate bit of geometry that works immediately. The diamond measures just under four millimetres across the narrow points and four and a half across the widest, placing it in the region of a third of a carat, and the white bezel setting reflects light cleanly back into the stone so its character is shown off to perfection. The tapered shoulders each hold a small diamond in a shaped panel and the overall structure borrows lightly from Art Deco language without becoming pastiche. It is a compact, balanced and intelligently designed ring that presents the centre stone with clarity and purpose.
