An exceptional Edwardian silver suite hallmarked Birmingham 1918 by maker JW, combining a richly detailed locket and its original wide cylinder link chain. Together they form one of those unmistakably luxurious early twentieth century silver statements, bold, decorative and meticulously made.
The locket is beautifully executed, layered with fine engraving and raised detailing. The central oval cartouche is framed by intricate foliate and geometric work, surrounded by a border of applied star discs and tiny bead accents that give a sense of movement and precision. It measures 6.3 by 4 centimetres and sits beautifully balanced against the broad chain.
The matching cylinder link chain is every bit as impressive. Each link is satin finished with knurled end caps, creating texture and rhythm without excess shine. At 1.5 centimetres wide and 18 inches long, it has striking proportion and serious weight in the hand. It closes with an extra large bolt clasp in full working order, a perfect finish to this beautifully engineered piece.
